What changed, with sources

Four dates that affect UK parcels to EU customers

Checked against official sources on 25 October 2026. Links open the source.

  1. EU customs duty of €3 per item on goods in parcels worth €150 or less, in place of the old duty exemption, until 1 July 2028. An "item" is each different tariff sub-heading in the parcel, so a parcel holding a silk blouse and two wool blouses counts as two items.

Sources: Council of the EU, 11 February 2026; Council Regulation (EU) 2026/382.

  2. Royal Mail Click & Drop asks for a product SKU and a manufacturer's product reference (the "Non-standardised Manufacturer ID") on each EU item declared as E-Commerce Goods. Postage cannot be applied without them. A barcode (GTIN, EAN, UPC or ISBN) is optional.

Source: Royal Mail Click & Drop help centre.

  3. EU handling fee of €2 per item on sales of goods to EU consumers, with no value limit, on top of any duty. Two identical items count once. VAT generally applies on top and the fee is not refundable.

Sources: Revenue (Ireland), 29 September 2026; Royal Mail EU trade insights.

  4. Italy: now 1 January 2027

Italy's own €2 charge per shipment worth €150 or less has been put back twice: first to 1 December 2026, then, by a decree approved by the Italian Council of Ministers in October 2026, to 1 January 2027. Some carrier pages still show an earlier date. It is not in the calculator below.

Sources: Italian Council of Ministers, press release no. 194 (in Italian); Italian Customs notice of 23 September 2026 (PDF, in Italian).

What the new EU charges add to each order

Runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. Uses only the figures sourced above.

Count each different product once. Two identical mugs are one item.
Goods only, before postage.
Default matches Royal Mail's own example, where €2 is about £1.73. Change it to today's rate if you like.

What you get

Every product filled in, ready to import

You send your product export. We return one master file and one import file for the platform you ship from.

HS codes are suggestions, not guarantees. Each comes with a confidence rating and a link to the UK Trade Tariff entry so you can check it. You confirm every code. If you are unsure about any product, check with your carrier or a customs adviser.

  • Suggested HS code for each product, with a high, medium or low confidence rating and the reason
  • Country of origin where your listing states it, flagged clearly where we need you to tell us
  • Customs description in plain words a customs officer will accept, not marketing copy
  • Manufacturer's product reference (your SKU if you make it, the supplier's part number if you resell)
  • Barcode check: we validate every GTIN or EAN and set a no-barcode flag where there is none
  • Import file for Click & Drop, eBay, Etsy or WooCommerce
  • Cost model of the EU duty and handling fee on your own order mix

Who it is for

Built for sellers who ship from a spreadsheet

  • Royal Mail Click & Drop users with EU orders
  • eBay and Etsy sellers sending small parcels to EU buyers
  • WooCommerce shops
  • UK 3PLs preparing data for many client catalogues

Who it is not for

When you need something else

  • Shopify stores: a Shopify app will usually do this for less
  • Binding tariff rulings or legal customs advice
  • VAT or IOSS registration

Who does the work

Run by a logistics officer, not a chatbot

GPT Shop Ltd is run by Chris Elder, a former British Army logistics officer who went on to spend 11 years leading global e-commerce operations. Getting goods across borders with the right paperwork is the day job.

We use the UK Government's Online Trade Tariff to check every suggested code, flag anything we are not sure of, and never guess a country of origin your listing does not state.

Questions

Frequently asked

Are the HS codes guaranteed to be right?

No. They are suggestions, checked against the UK Online Trade Tariff, with a confidence rating and the reason for each. You are responsible for the codes you declare, so confirm each one and ask your carrier or a customs adviser about anything you are unsure of. Low-confidence rows are flagged for you.

Which export formats do you accept?

Product exports from Click & Drop, eBay, Etsy, WooCommerce or Shopify, or any spreadsheet saved as CSV. Our CSV template shows the columns that help most.

Why is 26 October such a big deal for Click & Drop users?

Royal Mail's help centre says Click & Drop needs a product SKU and a manufacturer's product reference on each EU item declared as E-Commerce Goods, and postage cannot be applied without them. We fill both in for every product.

What is the manufacturer's product reference if I make my own products?

If you make the product, your own product code (often your SKU) is the reference. If you resell, it is the maker's part or model number. We tell you which one we used for each row.

Do I need a barcode?

Royal Mail lists the barcode (GTIN, EAN, UPC or ISBN) as optional for Click & Drop. We check any barcodes you already have and set a no-barcode flag where there is none.

How long does it take?

We aim to send your files within 3 working days of receiving your export. If a lot of rows need your input, we send what is ready and list the questions.

I have more than 1,000 products, or I am a 3PL.

Email hello@gptshopltd.com with your rough product count and the platforms you use, and we will reply with a price.

What happens to my product data?

We use it only to prepare your files. It is never shared or sold. Ask us and we delete it.
